Choi Ga-on is a South Korean snowboarder who became the country’s first gold medalist in snow sports. At 17, she won gold in the women’s snowboard halfpipe at the 2026 Winter Olympics.
In the final, she scored 90.25 points and defeated three-time champion Chloe Kim of the United States. She fell and hurt her leg in her first run, and fell again in her second run. Despite being in pain, she gave a strong final performance and won gold.
Choi began snowboarding when she was 7. In 2024, she received a serious spinal injury but recovered with her family’s support.
