Global Voices Shine on International Booker Prize Longlist   

• The longlist for the International Booker Prize 2026 is out! It features 13 works that highlight the diversity and creativity of translated fiction. The prize honors books translated into English, recognizing both authors and translators for bringing global stories to wider audiences. Among the selections is “Small Comfort” by Ia Genberg, translated by Kira Josefsson. The book presents five interconnected stories centered on money, with distinct characters and conflicts. Judges praised its sharp dialogue and vivid character portrayals. Another standout is “Taiwan Travelogue” by Yang Shu?ng-z?, translated by Lin King. Set in Taiwan in 1938, the novel follows a Japanese writer’s journey, blending historical insight with a travel narrative. “The Duke” by Matteo Melchiorre, translated by Antonella Lettieri, explores a simmering feud in a remote Italian village in the Dolomites. Judges highlighted the tension, the setting, and the twists, making it one of the more gripping books on the list. The selection spans across continents, periods, and genres, each book featuring uniquely memorable characters.
