Google has officially changed the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America in its Maps app.
This change comes after an executive order by U.S. President Donald Trump and a formal decision by the U.S. Board on Geographic Names on Feb. 10.
Google confirmed that it follows official government name changes. People using Google Maps in the U.S. will see “Gulf of America,” while those in Mexico will see “Gulf of Mexico.” Everyone else will see both names.
