The End of Aging? Ray Kurzweil Predicts AI Will Rewrite Human Biology

Kurzweil’s most striking claim is that humanity could reach “longevity escape velocity” by 2032. Today, people lose one year of life for every year that passes. He argues that within a decade, medical advances could move fast enough to “give back” that lost time through technological repair, potentially ending aging as a cause of death. This biological revolution would be driven by artificial general intelligence (AGI), a theoretical form of AI that matches or surpasses human intelligence across domains. Kurzweil maintains that AI will reach human-level ability by 2029, a prediction he first made decades ago. Kurzweil also predicts major changes to the human brain. By the early 2030s, he says, human brains and AI could merge so seamlessly that the boundary between biological and digital thought blurs. By the late 2030s, he expects AI to connect to the human brain non-invasively, meaning no surgery required, to enhance our creativity and memory.
