South Korea Turns To AI To Eradicate Voice Phishing   

• South Korea’s Financial Services Commission plans to launch a national artificial-intelligence platform designed to detect and block voice phishing scams before victims lose money. The system will connect banks, fintech apps, mobile carriers, and law enforcement, enabling them to share alerts in real time, freeze suspicious transfers, and warn customers nationwide within seconds. Currently, most institutions rely on their own fraud detection tools, slowing the flow of information. Scammers exploit that lag to open new accounts or move stolen funds out of reach. The new platform aims to close that gap through two coordinated data streams. One stream will distribute urgent details such as flagged account numbers or suspected victim contacts, allowing multiple companies to halt transactions simultaneously. The other will pool case patterns for AI analysis at the Financial Security Institute. Those findings will help banks block risky accounts, aid police investigations, and allow telecom providers to strengthen call-filtering features. Nonbank lenders will also gain enhanced detection tools under standardized reporting rules. A common scam begins when a caller impersonates a bank employee and urges a customer to move savings “for safety.” If the transfer is aimed at an account already linked to fraud, the platform could instantly match the pattern, alert the bank and carrier, block the payment, flag the number, and notify the customer with clear instructions.
