The History of Clocks
Do you have a watch? What time is it now? Today, we can find clocks easily. They tell us the time. Time is very important. You have to use your time wisely. Clocks help you use your time well. This week, let¡¯s learn about the history of clocks!
People started using clocks a long time ago. The word ¡°clock¡± was first used in the 14th century. At first, people didn¡¯t have wrist watches or digital clocks. They could tell the time by looking at the sun. For example, when the sun was directly overhead in the sky, it was noon.
People also used water to tell the time. About 3,400 years ago, water clocks were invented in Egypt. Water clocks were used in Greece, too. Later, people used sand to tell the time. It was called the hourglass. The first clock with a minute hand was invented in 1577.
Wow! The history of clocks is very long! Why don¡¯t you find more fun facts about clocks with your friends? It will be a lot of fun!
