On Feb. 10, Parasite made history by not only becoming the first Korean film to be nominated for the Oscars and win, but also by becoming the first foreign film to win the Academy Award for Best Picture in the Academy¡¯s 92-year history. This amazing feat was a first in the Korean film industry¡¯s 101-year history. Bong Joon-ho, the director of Parasite who received the spotlight, is known to frequently collaborate with Song Kang-ho, who played the poverty-stricken patriarch in the film. Song, born in Busan, Korea, started aspiring to become an actor in the eighth grade, when he would tell stories to his classmates, who said he should act. A trusted, prolific actor who has garnered more than 100 million domestic viewers, Song has performed various characters, representing middle-aged Korean men from all walks of life.
