The Chinese government has decided to ban making new Internet cafes this year because they feel the Internet is harming its young people. China, unlike Korea and the United States, is a communist country. That means that the government places great importance in what its people can and cannot say, both on and off-line. While they encourage schools and businesses to use the web to promote education and create jobs, they frown on people learning too much about the outside world or expressing how they feel. A British man named Mark McGowan recently ate a corgi dog to protest the hunting of foxes in England. Corgis are known to be the favorite breed of dog owned by Queen Elizabeth II, the current queen of England. He did it to protest her husband Prince Phillip killing a fox earlier this year.
As you all know, bullying can be a serious problem in many schools. Bullying can take on many forms. Sometimes it¡¯s just spoken words and threats. Other times it can mean getting in fights. Most bullying takes place between students, but for one young girl in America, the bullying was done by an adult! A 40-year-old woman named Marilyn Camacho in Massachusetts was arrested recently for beating up a 16-year-old girl. The fight happened at a mall. Mrs. Camacho and 3 young girls, ages 16, 13 and 12 are accused of throwing the unidentified girl through a glass store window. They then knocked her to the ground and began kicking and stomping her on the legs, face and back. The bullied girl became unconscious and had to be rushed to the hospital. Police are unsure of why the beating occurred, but believe it had something to do with bullying. They also know that one of the three girls and the victim had fought before.
