To capitalize on the space available, entrepreneurs introduced premium accommodations and fine dining to attract the social elite. In time, ships intended solely for luxury travel appeared. With the introduction of jet aircraft, however, ships quickly lost their place as the main mode of international or long-distance travel. Companies now had to focus on the leisure aspect to survive.
